Today WhiteFlag International welcomes two new Maltese sights to the WF family – Golden Bay and the Mgarr ix-Xini (Gozo)! H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta, and Dr. José Herrera, Minister for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change, were awarded two White Flags as symbols of CSMAs (Certified Safe Marine Areas) representing sea fully cleaned from plastic and other non-degradable waste. They were awarded by Mr. Kristijan Curavić, Whiteflag Int. CEO. The ceremony has also gathered representatives Mrs. Vicky Xuereb, on behalf of Ministry for Gozo, and Mr. Jesper Kärrbrink, Mr Green CEO.

The official ceremony took place on June 15th, 2018 at the National Aquarium in Malta. These two certifications are followed by the certification of Wied iz-Zurrieq (March 2018) which made Malta the first island in the world to have a White Flag beach.
